Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 9, 2026

At justREC, we take your privacy extremely seriously. Because justREC is designed as a local-first desktop application, your data remains in your control at all times. This Privacy Policy explains how our software operates and what minimal information we may interact with.

1. No Central Servers / Local Storage

We do not run central web servers or database systems to store your meeting recordings, audio files, or generated summaries.

  • Meeting Audio: Recorded audio is stored exclusively on your Mac in the folder you choose.
  • Transcripts & Notes: Transcripts, text outlines, meeting summaries, and export files (Markdown, PDF, DOCX, JSON) are stored locally on your device.
  • No Cloud Accounts: You do not need to create a justREC account to use the application.

Because all content is stored locally, we cannot access, view, share, or delete your recordings or transcripts under any circumstances.

2. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) Architecture

justREC utilizes a “Bring Your Own Key” (BYOK) model for speech-to-text transcription and AI-driven summaries:

  • Direct Connection: When you provide your own API keys (such as OpenAI or Anthropic), justREC makes direct HTTPS requests from your Mac to the respective third-party provider's API. No justREC server intermediates these requests.
  • Secure Storage: Your API keys are stored securely in your macOS Keychain (using the operating system's native secure storage). They are never sent to justREC or shared with anyone else.
  • Third-Party Privacy: Your interactions with third-party AI models (e.g., sending audio for transcription or sending text for summarization) are subject to those providers' respective terms of service and privacy policies. We encourage you to review their data retention and usage policies (e.g., OpenAI API's commitment not to train models on customer API data).

3. Website Analytics & Telemetry

When you visit our public marketing website (justrec.site), we collect basic, non-personally identifiable telemetry to help us understand site performance:

  • Service Used: We use PostHog to analyze page views, click behaviors (such as clicks on the “Download” button), and referral sources.
  • No Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or IP addresses that could identify you.
  • App Store Campaigns: Click links to the Mac App Store include campaign tokens (e.g., ct=seo_alternatives) to help us measure which marketing campaigns lead to application downloads. This tracking is aggregated and anonymous.

4. Children's Privacy

Since our application does not collect, store, or transmit any user data, we do not knowingly solicit or collect information from children.
